Activity Details
Dive into the colonial heart of Guatemala! At the appointed time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Guatemala City and head southwest to Antigua Guatemala. Welcome to the most romantic city in Central America!
Upon arrival, after approximately 2 hours of travel, we'll be welcomed by a picturesque setting of cobblestone streets, colorful facades and a history that seems to hum around every corner. We'll walk to the Central Square, from where we'll see the Cathedral of San Jose, the Palace of the Captains, City Hall and the Gate, which hold secrets of earthquakes and memorable reconstructions.
We'll cross the entire Calle del Arco until we begin to see at its end the bright yellow building that is the Church of La Merced, famous for its baroque facade. Did you know that it's said to be made of corn? Next, we'll explore the Jade Museum, where we'll discover how this stone has been a part of Maya history since ancient times. There will also be time to get wrapped up in the colors and textures of the handicrafts market, a true paradise for lovers of indigenous art!
Hungry? We'll leave you 1.5 hours of free time to enjoy lunch nearby in Antigua Guatemala's most recommended restaurants. After the break, we'll continue to La Azotea, a coffee farm on the outskirts of the colonial city. There, we'll take a 1.5-hour tour to learn about the processing of Guatemalan highland coffee. We'll witness the bean harvesting to the artisanal roasting and packaging. If for some reason La Azotea is closed, we'll visit the Filadelfia or Colombia coffee farms instead.
At the end of the farm tour, we'll finish the experience by tasting a cup of coffee that captures the essence of these volcanic lands. Finally, we'll return to the capital, where we'll drop you off at your hotel, 8 hours after pickup.
