Discover the history, architecture, and profound symbolism in the space that honors the victims of the 9/11 attacks on this guided tour of the National September 11 Memorial, an emotional tour in the heart of Ground Zero in New York.
Tour of the 9/11 Memorial
At the designated time, we'll meet at the square of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, a site over 3229 ft² (30000 m²) located among skyscrapers in Downtown Manhattan.
During the tour, we'll share the stories of resistance, memory, and reconstruction that define this sacred place as we reach the monumental Memorial Pools, located exactly on the footprints of the former Twin Towers.
We'll explain the Reflecting Absence design by the architects Michael Arad and Peter Walker, as we admire the largest artificial waterfalls in North America and the bronze plaques where the names of 2983 victims are arranged by "meaningful adjacencies."
Then, we'll stroll along the hundreds of white oaks in the square until we reach the Survivor Tree, a pear tree that survived the devastation of Ground Zero in 2001 and has become a living symbol of resilience today.
Finally, we'll explore the 9/11 Memorial Glade, the space inaugurated in honor of the rescue teams, volunteers, and neighbors affected by the toxins after the attacks, flanked by six stone monoliths with iron recovered from the World Trade Center.
After 45 minutes, we'll conclude the guided tour in the square of the Memorial.
