On this tour through the region of Los Chenes we'll discover an extraordinary Mayan heritage in its main archaeological sites. You will love it!
Los Chenes Region Tour
We'll pick you up at 7 am at your hotel in San Francisco de Campeche, and from there we'll leave for Los Chenes. This region of the Yucatan peninsula owes its name to the numerous pre-Columbian wells, called ch'e'en in the Mayan language, that have been found in the area.
The first stop will be at the site of Hochob. In this archaeological site we'll see the remains of ancient palaces of the Mayan civilisation, where we'll appreciate the main aspects of their culture. If you look closely at the stone stelae that are still preserved, you'll see various deities and other identifying signs of this pre-Columbian people.
After the guided tour of Hochob, we'll continue our tour of the Yucatan region of Los Chenes at the archaeological site of Dzibilnocac. The remains of its ancient Mayan city are still visible, as we'll appreciate by observing its imposing stone temples. In many cases, pyramidal bases have even been preserved, which help us to understand the architecture of that period better.
From Dzibilnocac we'll continue our route through the Yucatan to the town of Hopelchén, where we'll take a break at the restaurant La Capilla. There you'll enjoy a delicious traditional lunch with a choice of chicken, beef or a selection of barbecued products.
Once you have regained your strength, we'll head to the village of Ich-Ek to discover the Mayan traditions that still survive in this Yucatecan village. From there we'll finally return to your hotel in Campeche, where we'll arrive at 3 pm.
