Want to see one of the sites where an ancient Mayan legend comes to life? At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Merida and head east to visit one of the most fascinating sanctuaries of the Maya people of the Yucatán.
After an hour and a half's drive, we'll arrive at the Tsukan Sanctuary, where we'll first get ready to join a Mayan purification ceremony in which we'll embrace the mighty healing Pich tree. Then, fully refreshed, we'll visit the Mayan foundations and the remains of the ancient burials that occurred at this site.
There, you'll be able to visit the temple, which is dedicated to a serpent that, according to the Mayas, was the owner of the caves and cenotes. We'll tell you all about this myth and walk through the Mayan village as we reach the place where we'll participate in a Mayan cooking workshop. We'll make our own tortillas on the traditional hotplate and learn how to make a typical ‘recado’.
Afterwards, we'll go to a cenote where you can relax and swim in the crystal clear waters, a dip in a unique environment! Before returning to the minibus, we'll recover our strength with lunch at the Tsukan Sanctuary restaurant.
Finally, we'll end this 6-hour day trip by dropping you off at your hotel in Merida.
