At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Mérida to begin this cultural adventure. Are you ready to celebrate one of Mexico's most emblematic festivities? Here we go!
Our first stop will be a colorful cemetery, where the decorated tombs and offerings reflect the deep respect the community has for its ancestors. From there, we'll move to a charming Mayan village, where the Day of the Dead celebration comes alive with a series of traditional activities. You'll learn about Maya body painting and its meanings, paying homage to the deceased with symbolic designs. Are you up for trying this ancient art?
Next up, you'll head to a sacred cenote, a mystical place where the Maya people ceremoniously leave offerings to the dead, known as Hanal Pixan. Here, hand in hand with a shaman, we'll receive a blessing and delve into Maya folklore and beliefs about life and death, an experience full of emotion and spirituality!
To complete our experience, you'll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch with a selection of traditional dishes. What's more, you'll have a tequila tasting of various flavors and taste a selection of typical sweets, pan de muerto and the traditional pib, a recipe that is only prepared at this time of the year. You'll also enjoy cochinita tacos with handmade tortillas, an irresistible delight!
The festive atmosphere will continue with live music in the restaurant and a lively catrinas contest. Plus, you'll have some free time to stroll through the tianguis and discover the handicrafts of the region.
