Join us on this captivating day trip from Merida to Las Coloradas and Rio Lagartos, where you'll encounter crocodiles and flamingos and be enchanted by the pink waters of a unique ecosystem in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Description
Our adventure will begin at the scheduled time as we gather at the Paseo 60 shopping mall. There, we'll set off on a minibus, leaving the bustling city of Merida behind as we set off on our journey to Las Coloradas and Rio Lagartos. Are you prepared to explore the natural wonders of the northern Yucatan Peninsula?
After a scenic two-and-a-half-hour drive, our first destination en route will be the Las Coloradas reserve. The distinctive hues of yellow, orange, and pink of their waters result from the high concentrations of salt and algae, creating a truly extraordinary landscape.
We'll set off on a 1.5-hour hiking route through this natural wonderland, unraveling all its unique charms.
Our next highlight will be the mesmerizing Rio Lagartos, where we'll take a delightful boat ride. This journey will give you the chance to observe the diverse local wildlife. Ever seen crocodiles and flamingos? With a bit of luck, you'll have the chance to see these animals in their natural habitat.
Following the two-hour boat excursion along the Lagartos River, you'll have the chance to experience a traditional Maya bath, cleansing your skin with white mud. And after working up an appetite, it'll be time for lunch at a local restaurant.
As our day of exploration concludes, you'll be transported back to the starting point in Merida, marking the end of our memorable twelve-hour adventure.
